Kevin Boyle, the Willis Blackwood Professor of Real Estate in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the titles Willis Blackwood Professor Emeritus of Real Estate and department head emeritus of agricultural and applied economics by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emeritus title may be conferred on retired faculty members who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech community for 20 years, Boyle made significant contributions to the study of environmental and natural resource economics and real estate and land economics by authoring or co-authoring more than 100 refereed journal articles, book chapters, and technical reports.
In addition, his research has nearly 18,000 citations and has shaped how a generation of scholars think about the valuation of nonmarket resources using stated preference and revealed preference methods. ScholarGPS ranks Boyle in the top 0.2 percent of agricultural economists and top 0.4 percent of environmental economists.
Boyle led the establishment of the Bachelor of Science in real estate and the Blackwood Department of Real Estate at Virginia Tech. In the classroom, he taught a variety of courses in real estate, real estate data analysis, led students’ senior capstone experiences, and mentored many graduate students throughout their programs.
He has been named a fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association and the Association of Environmental and Resource Economist.
Boyle received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maine, a master’s degree in agricultural and resource economics from Oregon State University, and a doctoral degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin.
