PhD Microeconomic Theory Workshop

There will be an all-day workshop for PhD candidates from LSE and the University of Warwick working in microeconomic theory on Saturday 9 May 2026 at LSE.

Organised by PhD candidates with support from their respective departments of economics, the workshop aims at establishing closer links between the PhD microeconomic theorists working at these two leading institutions.

It is hoped that by enabling candidates to discuss their ideas in an informal, low-pressure environment, they will find areas of mutual interest, thereby sparking future research and co-authorship opportunities.

Alongside paper presentations by attendees, the schedule will include optional “coffee chats” in which members of each institution will be matched with one other to talk about their work in a casual setting.

You are not required to either take part in a coffee chat or present a paper if you would like to attend the workshop. If you want to submit a paper, it can be co-authored with professors, other PhD students, or solo-authored.

To register for the workshop, and to find out how to submit a paper, please fill in this registration form. The organisers, Joe Basford and Massimiliano Furlan, are happy to answer any questions you may have about it. The deadline for submissions is 28 February 2026.

If you are not studying at Warwick or LSE, but would like to attend, there are a limited number of spaces available to PhD students from other institutions. Please contact the organisers for details.
