SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Legislation proposed during the city council meeting aims to promote economic development in north Shreveport.
During Tuesday’s Shreveport City Council meeting, Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor of District A authored an ordinance to establish an Economic Development District in north Shreveport near the new Amazon facility. The district would serve the same purpose as a “TIF” district, which stands for Tax Increment Financing, where certain sales taxes and increments would be used to finance economic development projects within the district boundaries.
Taylor said this tax structure would help grow the area along North Market and focus on infrastructure. Her district is seeing new opportunities, and this will continue that growth for years to come.
“We want to see continued growth in that area of North Market. I am excited about the growth that is coming in, including the substation coming in and the opening of Amazon. In the morning, there will be the Supplier’s Fair for those who want to do business with Amazon,” Taylor said.
Businesses that have already registered will meet with Amazon officials Wednesday morning at Northwest Louisiana Technical College to discuss how they can use Amazon’s platform to sell their products.
The city council also unanimously passed legislation requesting a new early voting location at the Shreveport Office of Motor Vehicles on Financial Plaza. The resolution is in agreement with the Caddo Parish Commission, which is asking the Registrar of Voters to approve this new voting location.
