Abhinav Shukla

Abhinav Shukla has been appointed general counsel at Unbound, a global investment firm founded by Shravin Bharti Mittal, the son of Sunil Bharti Mittal who is chairman and founder of multinational conglomerate Bharti Enterprises.

Shukla will lead the legal and compliance function across Unbound’s global portfolio. “What I wanted next was a different kind of opportunity, not just stewardship of the legal and compliance function, but an opportunity to contribute to how a firm is shaped,” he said on his new position.

Unbound is a globally focused technology investment firm that backs long-term technology companies across developed and emerging markets.

“Unbound is very deliberate about its long-term investment approach across both developed and emerging markets, and that is what drew me in. For me, this is an opportunity to be a part of building a financial institution from the ground up, and that is what excites me the most.”

Shukla joins from Alpha Wave Global, where he served as head of legal – venture growth (global) based in London, and previously as head of legal – India, overseeing the fund’s India and Southeast Asia investment legal function from its inception.

Alpha Wave Global is an alternative asset manager, managing around USD29 billion in assets across several investment strategies, including private equity, private credit and public markets.

Shukla’s nearly two-decade career has spanned the full spectrum of institutional investment legal practice, from early stage investing at Orios Venture Partners and Kalaari Capital, through growth equity and cross-border M&A at Alpha Wave, to fund-level structuring across Cayman, British Virgin Islands, Indian and US regulatory regimes.

His experience spans significant deals in the global and Indian venture, growth equity, and private equity ecosystems, including investments in OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX, Cerebras, Aman Properties, ESR, Haldirams, Nxtra Data Centre, Oberoi Realty, Dream11, and Lenskart.

Beyond deal execution, his expertise encompasses critical fund operations, including designing compliance frameworks for conflict mitigation and managing broader corporate legal matters. He also regularly navigates complex corporate governance challenges, including mediating founder disputes and facilitating strategic executive transitions across portfolio companies.

Unbound backs the next generation of long-term technology companies at the growth stage, investing globally across both developed and emerging markets. Its portfolio includes Databricks, Alpaca, Perplexity, Syfe and Taptap.
