Decision Notice – CIRO Sanctions Scotia Securities Inc.

TORONTO, Aug. 14, 2026 /CNW/ — On August 6, 2026, a hearing panel of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) held a hearing pursuant to the Mutual Fund Dealer Rules and accepted a settlement agreement, with sanctions, between Enforcement Staff and Scotia Securities Inc. (Scotia Securities).

Scotia Securities admitted it:

(a)  failed to implement adequate policies, procedures, and internal supervisory controls to ensure it complied with its reporting and complaint handling obligations, and

(b)  failed to implement adequate policies, procedures, and internal supervisory controls to ensure it complied with its complaint handling and supervisory investigations obligations.

Pursuant to the settlement agreement, Scotia Securities agreed to pay a fine of $275,000, and costs of $10,000.

CIRO investigates possible misconduct by its member firms and individual registrants. It can bring disciplinary proceedings which may result in sanctions including fines, suspensions, permanent bars, expulsion from membership, or termination of rights and privileges for individuals and firms.
