The KOSPI, which started higher on the 22nd by recovering to 7,000 units, returned its intraday gains to close at 6,700 units.

The KOSPI closed at 6797.70, up 49.75 points (0.74%) from the previous day.

The index, which started higher at 7052.09, up 304.14 points (4.51%) from the previous day, was triggered by a buying sideline during the day. However, ahead of the earnings announcement of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, cautionary sentiment flowed in, reducing the rise in the second half of the market and giving up the 7,000 mark.

“The local stock market started higher on the back of low-priced buying, especially in the semiconductor sector, but retreated to the 6,850 level, returning the gains during the day on the burden of cashier sentiment and rising international oil prices ahead of Alphabet’s earnings announcement,” said Lee Kyung-min, a researcher at Daishin Securities Co.

On this day, construction (4.62%), transportation equipment and parts (3.02%), and machinery and equipment (2.20) rose by industry. Medical and precision devices (-6.48%) and textiles and clothing (-1.27%) showed weakness.

By trading entity, individuals and institutions sold a net 1.92 trillion won and 1.542 trillion won, respectively, while foreigners bought a net 3.5042 trillion won alone.

Among the top market cap stocks, Samsung Electronics (0.58 percent), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (2.67 percent), Hyundai Motor (4.76 percent), LG Energy Solution (1.26 percent), Samsung Life Insurance (1.27 percent), KB Financial Group (0.63 percent), and Samsung C&T (3.06 percent) rose, while SK Hynix (-0.33 percent), SK Square (-1.84%) and Samsung Biologics (-1.65%) closed bearish.

On the same day, the stock market showed a strong overall trend in the industry on net foreign purchases. In particular, performance expectations such as Doosan Efficiency (3.59 percent), Hyundai Engineering & Construction (5.12 percent), and KEPCO Technology (3.43 percent) and the government’s megaproject momentum showed a remarkable rise due to upward pressure.

KOSDAQ closed at 751.09, down 2.25 points (0.30%) from the previous day.

On the KOSDAQ, foreigners and institutions sold a net 101.4 billion won and 11.1 billion won, respectively, for each trading entity. Individuals bought a net 291.1 billion won alone.

Among the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks, Ecopro BM (1.51%), Ecopro (2.53%), Rainbow Robotics (16.28%), Reno Industrial (2.57%), and ABL Bio (0.14%) showed strong performance, while Alteogen (-1.83%), Jusung Engineering (-4.26%), Wonik IPS (-3.79%), Reno Industrial (-7.82%), and Eotechnics (-2.83%) closed weakly.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won per dollar closed at 1,480.1 won, down 6.7 won from the previous day.
