Part of the road had to be shut due to the surface cracking and melting
All parts of the A3 have been reopened after scorching weather had drastic effects on the surface.
One lane on the northbound route the end of the A3M stretch and the B2070 to Petersfield was severely damaged in the sweltering temperatures. Parts of the road cracked and crumbled.
National Highways South East confirmed that emergency resurfacing took place last night and into the morning to fix the problem. They said it originated from “extreme weather conditions”.
