US President Donald Trump announced a series of major energy infrastructure investments Wednesday, including a multibillion-dollar natural gas power facility in Texas, eight new nuclear reactors and the development of the Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project.
“We’re thrilled to announce one of the largest energy infrastructure investments in American history,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
The centerpiece of the announcement is a proposed $22.3 billion 6.5-gigawatt natural-gas power facility in Encinal, Texas, which he said would rank among the largest natural gas power plants ever constructed.
Trump also announced plans for eight large nuclear reactors, saying the projects would strengthen the United States’ position in global nuclear energy.
“The natural gas power plant in Texas will be among the largest ever built,” he said. “The eight new nuclear reactors will solidify our position as the world’s leader in nuclear power.”
The president also highlighted the Alaska LNG project, which he said would expand the nation’s ability to produce and transport liquefied natural gas.
“And by building the Alaska LNG pipeline, we’ll deliver nearly 4 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas per day,” he said.
