We are pleased to announce that Karan Bhasin, a PhD candidate in our department, has co-authored an article published by the Brookings Institution, together with Prakash Loungani, Programme Director of the Master’s in Applied Economics at Johns Hopkins University.

The article, titled “Has the developmental ladder become steeper?”, examines economic growth and development patterns in the 21st century. It discusses how the path to prosperity has evolved, with slower average per-capita GDP growth compared to the previous century, yet continued progress in poverty reduction. The piece analyzes the role of export-led growth versus institutional quality in enabling “growth miracles” and “growth champions” around the world.
