The launch of two new products by Tipperary-based Amneal Pharmaceuticals is expected to boost the local economy, a local representative has said.

Amneal, which is based in Cashel, officially launched their first two products on the commercial market this month, a move welcomed by local Fine Gael councillor Declan Burgess.

“This is a significant milestone not only for the company but for the wider Tipperary region,” he said.

“Amneal has been a fantastic contributor to economic activity in both Cashel and across county Tipperary. Their recent transition into the commercial market marks a major step forward and represents a significant boost for the local economy,” Cllr Burgess said.

The new products; Albuterol Sulfate Inhalation Aerosol and Beclomethasone Dipropionate HFA Inhalation Aerosol, represent Amneal’s first metered-dose inhalation (MDI) products introduced to the US market, both of which are manufactured in Tipperary.

Albuterol is used for the treatment and prevention of bronchospasm and exercise-induced bronchospasm, while beclomethasone is a corticosteroid used for the maintenance treatment of asthma.

The product launch comes after Amneal has undergone a significant expansion, with around 150 staff now working for the company.

“Since they acquired the former Johnson and Johnson site on the Cahir Road in 2015, the Cashel facility has evolved from a research and development centre into a key part of Amneal Pharmaceutical’s global operations, culminating in the launch of its first two respiratory metered-dose inhalation products in the US,” Cllr Burgess added.

“Well done to all past and present staff whose dedication and hard work have made this achievement possible. The team locally should be immensely proud of reaching this important phase,” he said.

“I have had the privilege of working closely with the management team in Cashel, as well as engaging with the leadership team at their headquarters in New Jersey, USA, including a visit in 2025 where I had major engagement with the CEO Chirag Patel and his board,” the Fine Gael councillor added.

Cllr Burgess said that he would continue to work with Amneal over the coming years to ensure that even more jobs are created in Cashel.
