KPop Demon Hunters’ McDonald’s Collab Is The Latest Scalper Craze

KPop Demon Hunters’ fashionably late McDonald’s collab includes a breakfast and lunch meal based on the film’s two warring pop groups, and in those meals you can get photo cards of varying rarity featuring members from hunter girl group Huntr/x and the demon boy band Saja Boys. What seemed like a replacement for the actual toys you’d get in a kids meal has quickly become a scalper’s dream, as people are buying the meals and selling the opened photo cards for more than it would cost to buy the meal on its own.

According to McDonald’s senior marketing director Guillaume Huin, the company is aware that some locations are selling out of the Huntr/x meal, but assures folks that there are still “many” restaurants where you can get the limited-time meal before it goes away. However, Huin also notes that the photocards have been showing up on sites like eBay, which means scalpers are likely contributing to the restaurants’ inability to keep up with demand.

Exclusive updates for KPOP Demon Hunters Fans

– On 4.26, holders of the Derpy cards from the Huntr/x and Saja Meals will get first exclusive access to a video event revealing the final results of the battle for the fans.

You can find individual cards, full sets, and even unopened packs on eBay, with prices ranging  from $10 for singles to hundreds of dollars for full sets. The cards have varying rarity, so some are going for significantly higher prices than others. I only got the Huntr/x meal once (and it went down much easier than when the McDonald’s CEO struggled to eat one of the restaurant’s burgers), but the restaurant forgot to put my photo card in the bag. So maybe I did briefly look at how much the Rumi cards were going for, but then thought better of it because if I’m going to try to get these cards, I might as well pay a third of the price and also get lunch.

The food is pretty good, but the best part of the KPop Demon Hunters x McDonald’s collab has been the high-quality animated shorts starring Huntr/x and the Saja Boys as they continue their battle for hearts and minds. The sequel still sounds like it’s years away, so I’ll take even the smallest crumbs until then.
