White Sox trade deadline prediction lands two players at same position of need

White Sox trade deadline prediction lands two players at same position of need originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Chicago White Sox are a legitimate postseason, AL Central, and even World Series contender this season. With a week to go until the trade deadline, the White Sox are 55-49 on the season with a 2.5 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the Central.

This White Sox team will be trade deadline buyers, and they could use a few different spots. Catcher is a huge need with the Kyle Teel injury, but they also desperately need more help in the starting rotation.

Sam Blum of The Athletic is predicting that amid such a desperate rotation need, the White Sox will swing two trades to upgrade the rotation, double-dipping at the position to bolster their odds of making a deep postseason run.

White Sox predicted to double-dip with rotation trades

“Chicago adds much-needed starters. The White Sox need two starting pitchers,” Blum predicts. “… Getting two reliable starting pitchers will be well worth the price for the shock contenders.”

The White Sox are predicted to acquire two starting pitchers this offseason. But, do they actually need two starters?

Davis Martin and Sean Burke have been good, but with Noah Schultz, Anthony Kay, and Erick Fedde being underwhelming, or downright bad, the White Sox need to upgrade this rotation.

Fortunately for the White Sox, it’s a good time to need starting pitching. Looking around Major League Baseball, there are plenty of starters who could be available.

Jose Soriano and Reid Detmers of the Los Angeles Angels, Luis Castillo of the Seattle Mariners, Hunter Greene of the Cincinnati Reds, Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins, and Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha of the Kansas City Royals are controllable options.

They all will likely cost way more than a typical rental starter, but this ascending White Sox team should try to acquire one of those starters to have someone for multiple seasons. But the rental options are also very strong.

Freddy Peralta, Clay Holmes, Foster Griffin, Brady Singer, Kyle Freeland, Michael Lorenzen, Tomoyuki Sugano, Robbie Ray, Tyler Mahle, Kevin Gausman, Trevor Rogers, Casey Mize, and Tarik Skubal are a few of the best rental starters available.

With so many good rotation options to consider, this prediction from Blum, where the White Sox would be trading for two starters this summer, is a fairly realistic one.

While two controllable starters might be too expensive, one controllable arm and another rental would give the White Sox the kind of upgrades they need to contend in 2026 and prepare for the future as well.
