The Adirondack Land Trust, currently based in Keene, has purchased a new headquarters in downtown Lake Placid.
On Monday, the nonprofit announced that it had bought a building on Saranac Ave for $2.1 million with help from an anonymous donor.
Originally constructed for the 1980 Olympics, the building was later home to the Aroma Round cafe. It has sat vacant for more than 20 years.
“As the pace of our land and water conservation work across the Adirondack continues to accelerate, this is an exciting time for our organization to find a permanent home,” said Adirondack Land Trust Executive Director Mike Carr.
“We’ve outgrown our rental space in Keene, and our future headquarters in Lake Placid will be the perfect location from which our professional staff can continue to carry out our mission.”
In a press release, the Adirondack Land Trust laid out its timeline for renovating the building in Lake Placid.
It plans to finalize the architectural design and begin construction next year through 2028 and move into the new headquarters in 2029.
