Sky and Virgin Media might rule the roost when it comes to TV, but they are facing more competition. Just last week, BT confirmed that it is bringing back its television platform, and now Vodafone has officially launched its all-new telly box. The mobile and broadband provider first announced its new Vodafone TV platform last month, but now we know exactly how much it costs and how to get it.
Vodafone says that broadband and mobile users can sign up today and get the box straight away.
Those with a Vodafone Pro Broadband plan – who sign up before the end of October – can even get full access without paying a penny as it’s currently included at no extra cost.
Anyone without Pro Broadband can pay as little as £10 per month for access to a basic TV plan, which includes over 100 channels and 300 games. The box even includes access to the Freely service, which offers live TV via a broadband connection.
Those wanting more things to watch can upgrade to a Vodafone TV Essential plan, which adds Netflix and HBO Max for £17 per month.
Other bonus features packed inside this device include full 4K and Dolby Vision compatibility for better visuals, along with Dolby Atmos for cinematic sound.
It’s also powered by Android, which means it can access thousands of games via the Google Play Store.
Vodafone is also promising a more intuitive user interface that the firm says has been designed to make entertainment feel effortless, along with helping families find what they want faster.
Finally, Vodafone is offering an incentive to those who want to switch from a rival service.
For customers moving to Vodafone TV & Broadband, Vodafone will credit their account with up to £300 towards early leaving fees.
Speaking about the update, Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director, VodafoneThree said: “Households are dealing with a TV setup that’s become far too complicated – juggling multiple apps, long channel bundles and services they often don’t use.
“Our research shows that more than a third of people haven’t changed their TV provider in the last five years, with the perceived hassle of switching a big blocker and, as a result, they are still paying for features that should be standard.
“Vodafone TV gives customers a smarter alternative: one simple, intuitive experience that brings their favourite entertainment together and helps them cut out unnecessary costs.”
