Freshfields has appointed private capital partner Victoria Sigeti as its new UK managing partner, succeeding Mark Sansom after three years in the role.
Based in London, Sigeti will lead the firm’s UK business alongside her client practice. She has been with the firm for 16 years, rising to partner, and has played a significant role in expanding Freshfields’ private capital offering.
Sansom has been appointed global client partner, responsible for leading the firm’s global client strategy.
Private capital
A major challenge for all Magic Circle firms has been the rise of private equity-focused US firms.
Freshfields has long had a top-tier private equity practice, but the rise of private capital globally has intensified competition.
The firm has been trying to strengthen its private capital offering – which is one reason why Sigeti’s appointment matters symbolically.
What they said
Freshfields senior partner Georgia Dawson said Sansom’s appointment reflected the importance the firm places on a “strong, integrated client strategy at a global level”.
Sansom called his run leading the UK and Ireland business “hugely rewarding” adding that he will build on that experience to deepen client relationships and support the continued growth of the firm.
Sigeti said: “London remains central to our global success, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm to continue delivering for our clients and investing in the next generation of talent.”
