Nathan Sutton, 24, of Brasshouse Lane, Smethwick, was identified by Sandwell’s neighbourhood crime team after a series of break-ins between June 24 and July 22.

Sutton worked alongside others to steal car keys from homes across Sandwell, Dudley and Wolverhampton.

The gang’s actions escalated in violence, with some victims being threatened with knives and requiring hospital treatment.

Sergeant Chelsea Norris said: “This was a series of terrifying burglaries where the offenders broke into people’s homes and threatened them with weapons in a place where people should feel the safest.

“The team immediately launched an investigation, reviewing hours of CCTV footage, and were able to identify Sutton as one of the main offenders.”

Sutton was arrested toward the end of July and later convicted of 22 offences, including burglary, attempted burglary, theft, robbery, and attempted robbery.

He also admitted attempting to escape lawful custody while under arrest and being taken to hospital for assessment.

Sgt Norris said: “This led to him being found guilty of offences at  thirteen addresses across Sandwell, Dudley and Wolverhampton.

“The victims were subjected to horrific attacks at their own homes, and I hope that this sentencing provides some sense of comfort following the ordeals they have been through.”

Sutton received a 12-year prison sentence with a two-year extended licence.

Police believe he was not acting alone and are appealing for information about his accomplices.
