“Dune: Part Three” 70mm IMAX Tickets Scalped

Warner Bros. Pictures

Back in July last year, tickets for IMAX 70mm screenings of Christopher Nolan’s next feature “The Odyssey” went on sale a full year before the film’s release.

The 18 cinemas involved offered only one session per day for the film’s opening weekend – specifically 7pm ones – and unsurprisingly, they were snapped up in minutes with nearly all sessions sold out after just one hour of availability.

Well, it just happened again yesterday, this time for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three”. Yesterday, tickets for the 7pm opening weekend 70mm IMAX screenings went on sale with only about a half-hour’s notice before they were available.

The result? Exactly the same, all available IMAX sessions were sold out within about an hour. Just like with “The Odyssey” too, the scourge of the modern online shopping era – scalpers – are already out there trying to profit off the demand.

In fact, one seller seemingly has profited off of this – shifting a single ticket for a screening at Cinemark Dallas for $1000 on eBay. Multiple tickets are still up on that site for hundreds of dollars each.

Like with “The Odyssey” pre-sale, users are already complaining that ticketing services were allowing people (and bots) to buy multiple seats in bulk obviously not expecting the scalping issues.
