Swedish private equity firm EQT plans to invest approximately $50 billion in India by 2030, with a substantial $30 billion earmarked for data centers. This investment strategy reflects EQT’s heightened focus on artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, and technology across the country. The firm expects to allocate around $5 billion to solar and renewable energy projects and another $15-20 billion to private equity investments within India. EQT has already deployed about $10 billion in Indian data centers and anticipates investing an additional $20 billion by 2030 to reach its $30 billion target for the sector.Much of this expansion will be channelled through EdgeConneX, EQT’s global data center platform, and its joint venture, AdaniConneX. EQT projects India’s data center capacity to increase significantly from approximately one gigawatt (GW) currently to as much as 5 GW, primarily driven by the demand for computing infrastructure for AI and hyperscalers leasing capacity for cloud and AI services.Jean Eric Salata, Chair of EQT Group, stated in Mumbai that India is one of their most important global markets, with digital data centers and infrastructure becoming the most significant part of their investment strategy. He added that India would play a disproportionately large role in their future strategy due to the immense opportunity.
