The Summit Private Equity Fund II, managed by Summit Africa, has acquired a 40% interest in Virtual Farmer, an agricultural supply and finance marketplace operating across South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Mauritius.
Established in 2019, Virtual Farmer facilitates financing for large-scale commercial farmers from institutional funders, backed by contracted supply or off-take agreements.
The investment will support Virtual Farmer’s expansion across Southern Africa, increase access to finance for commercial farmers, and fund the development of additional marketplace capabilities.
“The Summit Private Equity Fund II was launched in 2025 with the support of our institutional clients. We are pleased to be partnering with Virtual Farmer to unlock further institutional funding into a sector that produces over R500 billion (about $30.4 billion) of output annually in South Africa alone,” said Tomi Amosun, managing partner of Summit Africa.
